Should You Plan a Disney Cruise?

Most people I know fall into one of two groups: they’ve been on a Disney cruise and loved it, or they’re really wanting to go on a Disney cruise. Condé Nast Traveler 2019 Readers Choice Awards declared Disney Cruise Line the number one large ship cruise line in the world. So what makes a Disney cruise so special?

1. Beautiful ships with family-friendly cabins

Disney currently has four cruise ships, the Magic, the Wonder, the Dream, and the Fantasy. These elegant ships are all modeled after classic ocean liners. There are Disney touches throughout the ships, and some have interactive elements and games that add another level of fun.

Staterooms are well-designed and many offer a split-bath, which makes it easier for a family to prepare for the day. Interior cabins on the Dream and the Fantasy have a virtual porthole, enabling guests to view the outside with an occasional appearance from a Disney favorite.

2. Top-notch service and rotating waitstaff

Disney Cruise Line offers the same impeccable service that has helped Disney parks set the standard. It’s obvious that the staff and crew care greatly about making sure that each guest has an exceptional, magical experience. Although guests rotate to a different restaurant each night, the waitstaff rotates with them to provide a consistent, stellar experience. So whether you’re eating at the elegant Royal Palace or enjoying chatting with an animated Crush at Animator’s Palate, your servers will be with you.

3. Magical touches

Disney cruises offer many opportunities for children and adults to interact with characters. Each day’s schedule lists times and locations to meet princesses and cartoon favorites as well as Mickey Mouse himself. Dance parties are a blast, as children and parents share the floor with Donald, Goofy, and more.

Holiday cruises offer another level of fun. Enjoy Halloween or Christmas decorations, entertainment, and special activities to make the days even more festive. Seeing the Disney characters in their holiday best is a real treat!

And few experiences can match the feeling of standing on the ship’s deck at night watching an amazing fireworks display at sea. Disney is the only cruise line to offer this, and it usually takes place on Pirate Night, when a themed dinner, pirate show, and swashbuckling Mickey make it an evening to remember.

 4. Stellar entertainment

It’s no surprise that the entertainment on a Disney ship is Broadway caliber. On my recent cruise, I was blown away by the amazing performance of Beauty and the Beast.  The Golden Mickeys and Disney’s Believe were also incredible. Guests can also catch shows like Frozen and Aladdin on the other ships. There’s nothing quite like relaxing in a plush seat in a beautiful theater and enjoying your Disney favorites at sea.

5. Amazing kids’ programming

The only challenge with the kids’ clubs on a Disney ship is that your child may not want to leave! Infants are well-cared-for in the It’s a Small World nursery.   Children ages 3 - 12 can participate in the Oceaneers Club, where they enjoy games and activites with a Disney twist. Depending on the ship, kids can explore areas focused on Frozen, Marvel, or Star Wars. Tweens also have their own area, as do teens.

6. Castaway Cay

Disney’s private island in the Bahamas is the closest thing to paradise! The beaches are beautiful, and the food served on the island is delicious. Guests can relax on the beach or participate in the Castaway Cay 5K run. Snorkeling and parasailing is available, and cruisers can also reserve a private cabana.

7. Adults-only fun

From the Quiet Cove Pool to nightclubs and lounges, Disney Cruise Line offers plenty for adults. Each day is packed with activities for those 21 and up, offering opportunities for grown-ups to have their own fun. Each ship also has a restaurant for adult dining. Palo offers northern-Italian dining, and Remy is an elegant French restaurant. Adults can keep up with their exercise regimen in a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a salon and spa offers serenity, pampering, and personal attention.
